The water jar cracked in the cold. A concert by Manami Kakudo

As part of the last week exhibition “Communicating Vessels” we would like to invite you to a concert of the Japanese artist Manami Kakudo.

Manami was born in Nagasaki, she graduated a percussion course at the University of Tokyo.

As she writes about herself, she creates music and tricks.

Manami Kakudo also deals with performance – she is not limited to instruments and voice, but interacts with all things which are close to her, too. Apart from more traditional musical forms, she attempts experimental activities, such as recording the sound of a kiss or the music of music boxes, which she also uses during her performances. On the one hand, she explores very intimate topics; on the other, she remains in close contact with various musical traditions. Among her numerous projects, there are also those socially involved. Manami cooperated for instance with Karolina Breguła on “The Square” (廣場) film, which can be seen from March 4, 2018 at the Xawery Dunikowski Museum of Sculpture at Królikarnia in Warsaw.

Manami Kakudo’s concert at the Bunkier Sztuki Gallery of Contemporary Art will be her first appearance in Poland.

Some of her works can be seen on YouTube
