Kraków-wow. Bunkier Sztuki for Google Arts & Culture
Google Arts & Culture in cooperation with 13 Krakow’s cultural institutions is making a new
collection available online. The Kraków-wow! project is a virtual journey around the city of Polish
kings declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
As part of the Krakow project the Bunkier Sztuki Gallery of Contemporary Art is making available
over 100 works from its own Collection. Thanks to the universal nature of the language of art
the stories based on them are invariably up-to-date and interesting.
That is what Agnieszka Mazoń-Żywolewska, the Gallery Collection specialist, says about the digita-
lised Krakow contemporary artworks:
The cultural legacy, as well as mundane everyday life provide an important inspiration for Krakow-
based artists. Contemporary art often engages in polemics with tradition and heritage; it wants to spark change for the better, to abolish well-known patterns, lead to a revolution or a change of mindset.
The Bunkier Sztuki Collection, which has been built since the mid 1960s, includes many specimens
of works whose authors utilise the culture-forming and symbolic potential of their city in an original
and untypical way.
Kraków-wow! is the first Polish collection dedicated to a city which is already available to internet users worldwide. Now anyone and anywhere can get to know the capital of Malopolska by visiting the virtual exhibition Kraków-wow! on the Google Arts & Culture platform or downloading an app to their Android
or iOS device.
